Granny's Place, Inc. offers Collaborative Approach to Empowering girls in and exiting foster care. This program is an eight-step program to develop as an asset building approach. Personal Development PlanningSelf-Worth - Program will help bridges the gap of adolescence and emerging adulthood by providing an additional layer of coaching and support needed to take next step. Vocational DevelopmentClient's education and vocational skills are assessed to determine their needs. Educational counselor advises client of need for additional educational requirements and career credentials. One-on-one tutoring provided to assist with gaining high diploma, complete GED requirements. Individual and group sessions. Clients are encouraged to become knowledgeable in the latest state-of-the art technology - this area of knowledge will enhance their opportunity for careers in the digital age. Paid and Unpaid Internships are offered to gain experience. Parenting ClassesParenting responsibilities are taught to each young mother, helping to each client to cope with the stresses of parenting and how to handle emergency situations. Granny's Place, Inc. is a female-only facility. This is of significant value to the clients as it eliminates the possibility of sexual abuse from the opposite sex within the facility. Social SkillsCreative leisure activities are scheduled on a regular basis to develop social behavioral skills while providing healthy, challenging and fun opportunities for the building of self-esteem and self-confidence. |
Substance Abuse PreventionClients are encouraged to make a one-year commitment to drug therapy and Medical workshops are conducted on the impact drugs have on the mind and body. Positive interactions are encouraged to combat the addictions and mental problems. Interpersonal Skill DevelopmentWorkshops conducted to help client understand real life skills such as budgeting and shopping wisely; planning cooking meals, problem solving and interpersonal relationship skills.
Community InvolvementClients are encouraged to have involvement with cultural awareness programs, recreational program to help children with disabilities, and mentoring other children who are at risk. Independent living preparation/follow upClients are assisted by counselor and mentors to acquire own apartment, setting up budget, preparing each day for work and meeting daily responsibilities.
